Technical Assistance Bulletin
For CD-ROM Accompanying
Sandra Smith's Review for NCLEX
Recent upgrades to the Internet Explorer browser include a security
setting that may block the tests from running. Microsoft is attempting
fill other "security
holes" in I.E. 6. Basically, I.E. is trying to block the running of the program.
You need to inform I.E. that it should allow the blocked content to run. At this
time, we are receiving reports that indicate that the messages from I.E. are
not always the same. This may relate to the version of I.E. you have or some
other factor that we have not yet identified. We have listed several alternative
procedures below:
Allow Blocked Content
When using I.E., you should see an information bar near the top of your screen
on which you can click to Allow Blocked Content.
1. Select the option, Allow Blocked Content, then select Yes when prompted from
the dialog.
2. Select Yes when the browser tries to close the attached window.
If the CD loads but the Q & A program will not open, one alternative action
is to click on the Book directory on the CD and click on test.html.
Blank White Screen
After you insert the CD-ROM into the CD reader, you may encounter what appears
to be a blank white screen in one of the following configurations:
1. Plain white screen with no Tool Bar but a light yellow box at the top
of the blank white window with the following message:
To help you protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file
from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options.
Click and you will see a dropdown menu that gives you three choices:
-
Allow Blocked Content
-
What's The Risk?
-
Information Bar Help
Select (highlight) Allow Blocked Content and you will see the following message
box:
Security Warning: Allowing active content such a script
and ActiveX controls can be useful, but active content may also
harm your computer.
Are you sure you want to let this file run active content? Click on Yes
2. Blank screen with a small button in the middle of a gray Tool Bar
Click on the button and you will see Popups Blocked Click on it, and you will
see Popups OK
Two alternative actions:
1. Click on Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Security section check "Allow
active content to run in files on My Computer"
Select Yes when you are prompted to close the window.
2. Download Firefox, a relatively
new but highly praised browser that will override IE. Firefox is free. You
can easily download and install it at no charge. Then when you insert and activate
your CD-ROM, the screen will display a file folder. Open the folder and click
on the icon labeled NNRRNTest or NNRPNTest.
Please do not submit the Request
for Technical Assistance form until you have tried the Firefox option.
